# Introduction
The Shaungdao is a scientific method based traditional meditation practices and folklore techniques. The Shaungdao is notable for being one of the few scientific methods to explain spiritual phenomenon in a reliable manner.
The Shaungdao is built on the Taiji doctrine, which describes the flow of cosmic energy along two paths through the stages of existence, the five agents of Wuxing.
# The Wuxing Agents
The [[The Wuxing|Wuxing]] are the five agents, states of existence that cosmic energy temporarily adapts as it flows along one of the two paths.
The five agents are: Huo, Shui, Mu, Jin, and Tu.
# The Taiji Doctrine
The two paths of cosmic energy are collectively known as the Taiji, the great poles. These paths are Yin and Yang. Yin and Yang are coexisting forces in all things, but are often unbalanced. When Yin and Yang are unbalanced, they tend to favor the dao that last affected the change of Wuxing agent.
## Yin
Yin is a receptive and inward path, a cycle of gentleness and growth. It is often associated with darkness and stillness. Yin travels through the agents in an order of birth: Huo, Tu, Jin, Shui, and Mu.
## Yang
Yang is an exertive and outward force. It acts against its surroundings, shaping its environment. It is associated with light and action. Yang travels through the agents in an order of strife and control: Huo, Jin, Mu, Tu, and Shui.
