# Introduction
A Shadow Desert is a desert that forms as a "shadow" of a mountain. While not all mountains cause deserts, there are plenty of cases where mountains block the necessary rainfall in a region and give rise to a Shadow Desert Biome. These biomes are hot and barren, and the air is thirsty. The area usually has large saltbeds and plenty of rockland exposed by air erosion.
# Environment Fluctuation
Like many extreme environments, Shadow Deserts are primarily divided into Rainy and Dry Seasons.
## Ogair and Sal, Rainy Season
Unlike many other biomes with only rainy and dry seasons, Shadow Deserts tend to have only short bursts of torrid rainfall. The saltbeds that litter the area are temporarily filled with lakes, but within a week, they will typically evaporate. Even when the lakes are filled, the saltbeds prevent the water from being drinkable and are not hospitable to most life. The rain remains sparse, but heavy when it appears.

## Doth and Bas, Dry Season
The dry season of a Shadow Desert is exactly the same as the rainy season, sans the possibility of rain. The sun continues to beat down upon the land without mercy.
