# Introduction Gaiatics is the [[The Atheneum|Atheneum]] study of climates and biomes. Gaiatics serves as a basis for [[Ceretics]], and, over the millenia, the [[The Hermetics|Hermetic]] study of [[Botany]]. Gaiatics biomes are tied to the [[Coligny Calendar]] and together, these systems define multiple loot tables. # Biomes Gaiatics defines different biomes and climates where plant life can be found. Each biome has a different loot table, which changes during the months and seasons. Biomes are sorted into subsets, with certain ecosystems have similarities between each other, or being closely knit together. ## Rainforest The rainforest biome has several biomes strongly associated with its development. These biomes are almost always found adjacent to a rainforest. - [[Rainforest]] - [[Cloudforest]] - [[Tropics]] - [[Jungle (Gaiatics)]] ## Desert The desert subset of biomes are wide and varied. Though the land is always harsh, the abundance of life here is usually much deeper than what is first apparent. - [[Dune Desert]] - [[Fog Desert]] - [[Shadow Desert]] - [[Dustbowl]] - [[Rockland]] - [[Saltlands]] - [[Polar Desert]] ## Shrubland Shrublands are a transitional biome subtype usually existing between grasslands and a much more flora developed region. Shrublands are also often found on mountainsides, existing as the last vestiges of plant life before the elevation chokes out life. - [[Heath]] - [[Thornscrub]] - [[Fynbos]] - [[Chaparral]] - [[Tundra]] ## Grasslands Grasslands are a biome subset characterized by open grass plains with almost no tree coverage and very little shrub coverage. - [[Steppe]] - [[Savanna]] - [[Moor]] - [[Prairie]] ## Forest Biomes defined by significant tree coverage, but still experience a traditional seasonal structure. - [[Deciduous Forest]] - [[Laurel Forest]] - [[Coniferous Forest]] - [[Woodland]] - [[Grove]] - [[Taiga]] ## Wetlands - [[Swamp (Gaiatics)]] - [[Mangal]] - [[Estuary]] - [[Marsh]] - [[Salt Marsh]] - [[Quagmire]] ## Coastal - [[Lagoon]] - [[Continental Shelf]] - [[Beach]] - [[Rocky Shore]] - [[Coral Reef]] ## Lakes - Basin - Crater - Glacier - Billabong - Fluvial - Karst - Vlei - Lava ### Lake Modifiers - Reservoir - Brine - Acid # Regional Modifiers ## Mountain Regions Mountain Regions can modify land and, (rarely), wetland biomes - Depression Region - Canyon Region - Sealevel (Default) - Piedmont Region - Montane Region - Alpine Region - Nival Region - Plateau (Piedmont region or higher) (additional modifier) - Mesa (Specific type of Plateau) - Volcanic Activity (Additional Modifier) ## River Regions - Perennial (Default) - Episodic - Periodic - Arroyo - - Tributary - Distributary - Braided - Watercourse (Default) - Strait - - River Delta - Aqueduct - Floodplain - Floodstage - Meander - Mouth --- See also: [[Gaiatics Supplement]]
