# Introduction
Food and Drink are mechanics about sustainability during your adventure. While in towns, your food and drink are considered taken care of and abstracted away. While traveling through most biomes, your [[Rations]] become an important resource, while your need for water and drink are considered taken care of so long as you have a [[Leather Waterskin|Waterskin]], or another way to take water on the go. When traveling through the desert, sea, in dungeons, or any other place where springs of water could not be reasonably found, water becomes an important resource for you to manage during your travels.
# Afflictions
If you are unable to meet your needs of Food and Drink, you can gain the afflictions Hunger and Thirst.
## Hunger
[[Hitpoints and Willpower|Rest]] has no effect, and [[Hitpoints and Willpower|Recovery]] only acts as Rest. When you gain hitpoints, you only recover half. Take on a [[Stages of Decline|Stage of Decline]] daily until you have maximum [[Stages of Decline|Despair]].
## Thirst
When you gain willpoints, you only recover half. You have no resistances. Take on a [[Stages of Decline|Stage of Decline]] daily until you have maximum [[Stages of Decline|Despair]].
