# Introduction
Standing is a three-part epithet that determines starting wealth and equipment. It is chosen during character creation, and typically has no gameplay relevance other than starting bonuses. Discuss with your narrator about what bonuses your standing may offer.
Standing has three sub-epithets
- Class Designation
- Social Circle
- Region
Standing is listed as "Circle" "Class" of "Region"
# Class
## General Class Structure
Class structure intricacies can vary quite a bit between different social zones. However, there are basic terms that can be used as a reference point to map out onto most economic areas of the world. The following terms, listed from high rank to low rank, have definitions that can be found within the [[Main Glossary]], and are important to understanding which class designation most suits your character.
- Royalty
- Nobility
- Gentry/Vassal
- Gentry/Guild
- Commoner/Yeofolk
- Commoner/Serf
- Peasantry
## Class Designation
There are three class designations to consider for standing. Proletariat, Bourgeoisie, and Maverick.
### Proletariat
Proletariat are people who sell their labor within the generally acceptable structure of common society. This can include working gentry guildmasters all the way down to the peasantry class. Adventurers, Merchants, and other wandering professions are also included here as generally socially acceptable yeofolk professions.
### Bourgeoisie
The Bourgeoisie are the wealthy upper class that primarily holds power with legitimacy and established rule. Their wealth typically comes from ownership, rather than labor. This typically includes gentry vassals, nobility, and royalty. Some bourgeoisie live on the fringes of high society and engage in odd or criminal behaviors. So long as their wealth and power primarily interacts with legitimate and legal sources, they will still be designated bourgeoisie.
### Maverick
Mavericks are people who live on the fringes of all societies. Some are hermits who have lived off the grid, many are criminals from all walks of life, and some are merely long suffering victims at the hands of criminals. Misplaced people, such as refugees, or those who wander with very eclectic backgrounds (circus performers, bards, fortune tellers) would also be considered mavericks.
