# Introduction
Dragons are extremely powerful entities that boast abilities beyond mortal comprehension. There are very few entities in the universe that can match their might.
## Dragon Categories
Dragons are generally reptilian and often come in unique and varied shapes and sizes. No dragon is exactly like another dragon and while their power can greatly vary, even the weakest dragon is more formidable than any mere mortal creature. Dragons are usually classified in "Generations" and "Species". Species here is a misnomer, all dragon species can and usually do have children of other different species.
# Dragon Generations
Dragon lineage is extremely powerful, but drops off dramatically after every generation.
## Archdragons
Archdragons have continental-sized territories, and so there are very few in existence. Not much is known about them, but they are believed to be immortal. Archdragons include [[Bolor]] and [[Nadia]]. Archdragons reproduce High Dragons sexually and Low Dragons asexually.
## High Dragons
High Dragons typically remain in their parents' domain, and hold regional territories. They are the dragons most likely to take folk form and interact with mortals. Being at the crossroads of immortality and mortality, they are usually extremely insecure at the vast amounts of power their parents have, and yet is definitively out of their own reach. They usually compensate by being heavily involved in the mortal kind and acting out in ways to impress others. High Dragons typically lay several eggs at a time. While most of the brood will become Low Dragons, there is usually one dragon among each litter that has the intelligence and power to be fitting of a high dragon.
## Low Dragons
Low Dragons, or just "Dragons", have a considerable drop in self-control, but not so much in intelligence and strength. They are usually intelligent enough to carry out conversations, but they usually live as a slave to their high bestial instincts. They are often more akin to monsters and there are rarely moral qualms in murdering them. They reproduce similarly to high dragons, where most of the brood becomes Dragonlings, but a single egg within the batch will usually be a Low Dragon instead.
## Dragonlings
Dragonlings are simply monsters that have no intelligence beyond an animal. They can be tamed and kept as a pet, however, they are usually nuisances to mortals and dragons alike. Dragonlings are sterile.
# Dragon Species
Dragon Species are simply a general classification of dragons created by generations of observations. While dragons very often fall outside of these classifications, the pattern of similar characteristics has proven to hold useful.
## Salamander
Salamander dragons typically have very leathery skin, with no scales, and crawl along with their belly on the ground, like a [[Salamander]] or a crocodile. They usually have no wings and will rarely have breath attacks.
Notable Salamanders include: [[Fafnir]]
## Drakes
Drakes are dragons that stand tall with particularly strong dragon scale. They have short necks, and may or may not have wings. They have four limbs, but may walk on either two or four legs, with their front limbs having varied levels of dexterity. Drakes are typically what one would picture when imagining a dragon.
Notable Drakes are: [[Nadia]]
## Wyrms
Wyrms are usually sea dragons, and are distinguished by their lack of appendages. They are often compared to snakes. A wyrm that lives by burrowing on land is called a "Knucker", and their burrows are called Knuckerholes. Alternatively, knuckers are called stollwurms in [[Himinjoðyr]] tradition.
Notable Wyrms are: N/A
## Wyverns
Wyverns are sometimes confused with Drakes, but they usually have different characteristics. Wyverns are distinguished by their wings replacing their front limbs. They have weaker dragon scales, but are significantly more quick and agile in flight than other dragons. Rarely, they can have feathers. When they do, they are sometimes referred to as a cockatrice.
Notable Wyverns are: [[Bolor]], [[The Jabberwock]]
## Chimus
Chimus have long thin bodies, similar to Wyrms, but they have short legs akin to Salamanders. They have no wings, but almost always fly tirelessly, using some sort of telekinesis that originates in the lump on their head, called a Chimu.
Notable Lungs: N/A
## Vibria
Vibrias are dragons with only forelegs, dragging the rest of its body behind it, like a snake. They are sometimes depicted with breasts, but in actuality, they have the largest and densest dragon scales of all species on their chest.
Notable Vibria: N/A
## Chiwen
Chiwen are dragons that resemble fish or whales. They specifically do not have any horns, but often reach incredible sizes. There are legends of fishing up Chiwen and being granted wishes in exchange for returning it to the ocean.
Notable Chiwen: N/A
## Ichthyos
Ichthyos dragons somewhat resemble a Salamander, but have fins rather than legs, and live in the water. While some are similar to crocodiles, most have long slender necks. Their scales are weaker than the average dragon.
Notable Ichthyos: N/A
## Beifang
Beifang dragons are sometimes called Turtle Dragons or Lion Turtles. They have a shell similar to a turtle, but usually are unable to retreat into it. Beifangs are usually equipped with fins and live in the ocean, like Ichthyos dragons, but there have been known to be some of these dragons that had legs instead and lived on land.
Notable Beifang: N/A
## Bolla
The Bolla is a dragon species only observed in dragonlings. They resembles frogs with bat-like wings and are notoriously hungry, with bottomless pits.
## Additional Classifications
### Verechelen
Verechelen Dragons are dragons that have a folk-like face, with various other folk-like characteristics in their base form. Contrary to popular belief, a Verechelen dragon does not necessarily have mortal parentage, nor is the ability to shapeshift innate to the Verechelen.
Notable Verechelen: N/A
### Hydra
Hydras are strange category. They refer to /any/ dragon species that has two or more heads. They are notorious for either having either multiple elemental affinities or monstrous regeneration, sometimes both. They are very rare, and usually only born as Low Dragons or Dragonlings. If a Hydra has monstrous regeneration, the dragon is almost certainly unintelligent, but if the Hydra only has multiple elemental affinities, intelligence and consciousness are significantly more likely.
Notable Hydra: N/A
# Dragonhide and Dragon Scale
Dragonhide is very resilient, and low dragonhide can only be pierced by dragon bone. Weapons made with other materials must have dragon bone powder included in the forging process to have any use against dragons. Use of standard weaponry requires years of effort before the scales begin to fall. Dragon scales do not grow back, and once loosened, are lost forever.
