# Introduction Afflictions are negative attributes applied to characters. While most are simply temporary negative status effects, some can linger for a while, or even become permanent. The most prominent subcategories of afflictions are [[Stages of Decline]], Illnesses, and Poisons. ## Temporary Affliction Sometimes afflictions are applied temporarily by obstacles and environments. Temporary afflictions are only applied while exposed to the obstacle/environment, and are cured immediately once said obstacle/environment is no longer exposed to the afflicted. # Illnesses Illnesses are contagious afflictions that can last for a week or longer, usually have significantly negative effects, and may not resolve without specific cures. # Poisons Poisons are similar to Illnesses, but are purposefully made, applied, and have specific methods to deliver them to their targets. ## Infection Infection delivery works through the bloodstream, typically from a wound. These poisons are often applied to weapons. ## Topical Topical delivery methods are poisons that are absorbed to the skin. Most natural plant poisons are topical. ## Inhalation Inhalation refers to gaseous poisons that infect as an aerosal. These poisons are typically very difficult to control. ## Ingestion Ingestion is the most common poison method. It must be consumed by the target, and is usually the most reliable application for the body.
